By far, my biggest challenge as a first time entrepreneur was trying to do it all by myself and not asking for help.
I didn’t want bother people, take up their time, be judged or rejected so instead I did what I thought entrepreneurs were supposed to do. I hustled. Working too many hours in a day, for weeks which turned into months triggering my family to host a full blown intervention with me. They didn’t recognize their mom or their wife. Yikes!
The idea to adapt the ‘Hire & Fire’ system into a mobile app to help more families seemed like a simple task at first. Find a developer, and turn the paper concept of ‘Hire & Fire Your Kids’ into a digital one. Easy right? Wrong.
Trying to get a business off the ground as a non technical founder with no experience, no employees or management to bounce ideas off of, set plans/goals, work through projects as a team and make decisions was incredibly hard.
After the intervention I slowed down and began to reach out for help. I had no idea there were so many resources for entrepreneurs. From grants, small business hubs, subject matter experts, business development centers, accelerator programs, discounts from SAAS products, community support and more.
What took me way too long to learn was that there were actual people out there that wanted to help, who knew! The answer will always be no if you don’t ask. Once I realized, that all I had to do was be brave and just ask for help, the doors of support opened and I haven’t looked back as we aim to take Hire & Fire Your Kids – Gamified Parenting App to the next level this year.
