SET UP

  • Where do I find my username and passphrase?
    • Your username and passphrase are created by you.  Username min 4 characters & passphrase min 14 characters (includes spaces).
    • An e-mail or text will be sent to players welcoming them to HFK and providing their username for reference
  • Why can’t I use my regular login like I do for other apps?
    • We needed to build an initial Username & Passphrase set up so that we could offer the app to families with kids who don’t have their own email address or phone number. (You can set up the kids invites with parents email or cell phone number.
  • Why am I getting an error message when I’m creating my passphrase?
    • Technology can by finicky, try uninstalling and re-installing the app and clearing your cache
    • If the above doesn’t work, start again registering a family account but create a new username.
    • HFK app is supported by Android version 6 and up and Apple iOS version 9 and up.  However, the app has shown to work on older versions too.
    • If your device is too old you can still play by using the web app version at app.HireandFireyourKids.com.
  • Do my Kids need an email address or phone number to set up a user profile?
    • No, any player that doesn’t have a phone # or doesn’t have an e-mail to create their profile can use their parents e-mail or phone #. 
    • NOTE: The latest iOS 13 release has been reported to be buggy and affecting various apps.  If you’re using iOS13 the Team player invites may not work.  Double check junk mail, or try a different email or cell phone number and resend the Team player’s invite from the Team Screen.
  • What’s the difference with the Web app versus using the App Store or Google play app?
    • The only main difference with the web app is it doesn’t have the built-in notifications.  If you use Google Chrome on your computer you can receive them though!  
    • You can’t access the web app unless you purchase the HFK app from your favorite store.
    • The photo taking/sending option is not optimal in the Web app.
  • Why is my Kid not getting the Team invite on his phone or email?
    • Double check their JUNK mail
    • Try inviting that player again from the Team screen and select “Resend Invitation” if that still doesn’t work start again and invite a new player but create a new username for them.  They can use same passphrase.
    • The latest iOS 13 release has been reported to be buggy and affecting various apps.  If you’re using iOS13 the Team player invites may not work. Hoping apple bug fixes will be released soon.
    • When in doubt uninstall and re-install the app and clear your cache.
    • Still not resolved, contact us and we will troubleshoot with you info@HireandFireyourKids.com.
  • How do I add HFK app on my Kids’ devices?
  • I bought the app from the App Store but my Kids have Android devices do I have to buy the app again through Google play?
    • Your Kids can use the web app for free on any device or computer at app.HireandFireyourKids.com 
    • Otherwise, yes you will have to purchase again from the other store.
  • It won’t let me load the template why?
    • Templates can only be loaded once and if you chose to create your own from the start you can’t go back and load ours.  Best to create a new family account using a new username and start again downloading the template of your choice.  You can edit and add your own as you see fit after by sliding left to edit or delete.
  • My device is too old can I still play?
    • Yes, you can still play using the web app version at app.HireandFireyourKids.com  
    • Android version 6 and up is supported
    • Apple iOS version 9 and up is supported
    • HFK app has been shown to work on some older versions too though.
  • I forgot my passphrase how do I reset?
    • Use the “Forgot Passphrase?” on the login screen.  Will ask for your username and an e-mail or text, will be sent to your inbox to re-set.
  • How do I create specific Jobs per Kid?
    • Best to put their name in front of the Job (i.e. Nicole – do a load of laundry, Sam- do a load of laundry etc.).
    • Future versions will allow you to customize per Kid.
  • Can the Game Rules be customized per Kid?
    • No, not at this time.  We would love to release this feature with future versions so that each Kid can have their own Game Rules that best suit them.

PLAYING

  • How do I play HFK?
    • Please visit our Play menu HERE
  • How do I edit or delete my Jobs or Expectations? 
    • Slide left to Edit or Delete
    • Click on a Job or Expectation and the Edit or Delete buttons will appear
  • How do I reopen a Job?  My Kid applied for one by mistake.
    • Go to your Jobs screen and click on the “taken” Job you want to re-open.  Then click on “Change Job Status To Open”.  This will remove the Job applied for on your Kids Homepage.
  • How does my Kid delete a Job they didn’t mean to apply for?
    • Kids can’t delete Jobs they’ve taken.  Kids can ask their parent or send an in-app message and ask for the Job to be re-opened.
  • How do I clear Jobs once they’re completed?
    • Jobs will only clear from the Kids Home screen once the new pay period begins.
  • How do I get re-occurring Jobs?
    • Choose or create the Job you want to set as re-occurring and select “Detailed”, select “at a specific time and date” and choose “repeat daily” or “repeat weekly”.  Jobs will load into the Kids Homepage (daily or weekly) if they apply for that Job.  
  • How do I keep my Kids from fighting over Jobs?
    • Our families have shared that this actually happens! Best to discuss at your Team Family Meetings and put some guidelines in place.  As of now, it’s first come first served.
  • How do I assign Jobs to my Kids?
    • You don’t!  The app is designed for the KIDS to be taking the initiative not you.  We will remind and nudge them as they need.
  • Why are all the jobs assigned to me on the Jobs screen?
    • The Job will remain “open” under your name (or whichever parent loads/creates the Jobs) until a player has “taken” that Job.
  • How do I add Jobs for my Kids (they all look like they are assigned to me on the Jobs screen)?
    • The Job will remain “open” under your name (or whichever parent loads/creates the Jobs) until a player has “taken” that Job.
    • To add a new ”open” Job either load template (if you haven’t already) and edit/delete, or go to Jobs, tap the + symbol on top right, and create. 
  • Can I change the earnings per Job to some points and some dollars?
    • Unfortunately, no.  The Payment can only be one or the other at this time. 
  • How do I change Jobs to daily, weekly or monthly?
    • You can’t create monthly Jobs as of yet.
    • Daily and weekly can be set by editing the Job and selecting “Detailed”, then choose “at a specific time and date” and choose “repeat daily” or “repeat weekly”.  
  • Why haven’t my Game Rules changed?
    • When Game Rules are customized by you, they will save on the backend of the app and update when the upcoming pay period arrives which is defaulted to Friday.  On Friday you will get a notice that your Game Rules have changed and will be reflected on the Game Rules page.
  • How do I add a Job reward amounts?
    • All Jobs listed in the templates are customizable including the rewards which start at $.25 and up
  • How can I see what Jobs my Kids have applied for?
    • Go to Jobs and click on “Filter” at the very top, choose “Taken” and you will see all the Jobs your kids applied for.
  • Can I add non-housework things to my Expectations like reading a book or playing an instrument?
    • Yes, of course!  You can add anything you like (homework, baseball practice, put on your deodorant, whatever!)
  • What is the incomplete filter for?
    • This filter will show you all the outstanding Jobs that need to be addressed by your player.  They likely completed a Job that was sent to parent for review and was sent back to player as incomplete. 
  • Can my Kids still apply for Jobs on payday?
    • No, at midnight on Payday the game re-sets and a new pay period begins.  Kids have until 11:59pm the day BEFORE Payday to get in any last-minute Jobs.
  • Do I have to set my Jobs every Pay Period?
    • No.  Once you set yourself up at the start, the game just re-sets each pay period.  You can update and customize as you continue to play though.
  • Will I have to take out a second mortgage to pay my Kids on Payday?
    • Lol, no.  The Kids are always very eager at the start of the game but the novelty does wear off a little as you continue to play and the Jobs completed get more realistic to what you can expect.  Average weekly payday from our beta testers was $7-$14 a week.
  • Can I pay my Kids with a partial pay out?
    • No, not at this time.  
  • Where does the money come from when I click Pay on Payday?
    • Currently you have to go to your bank machine or transfer funds into your Kids bank accounts.  
    • We are still looking for a partner to work with us and manage the pre-paid debit cards linked to our API allowing Kids to Keep, Save, Give and Invest in the game.  
  • Can I track the jobs I do around here to show my Kids and spouse?
    • Yes!  Just send yourself another invite to play as a Kid with a new username and passphrase.  Accept the invite, set your passphrase and start applying for all the jobs you do around your home.
  • Can I fire my spouse?
    • If you and your spouse are playing as Kids as well as Parents then yes.  Start giving those Warning X’s and if they get too many, go ahead Fire them!
  • Can the Kids Fire parents?
    • We haven’t built in the functionality to Fire the parents yet.  Currently Kids can use the message function and send a warning X through the app to their parents.  Parents X’s are not tracked as of yet, so it would be manually done.
    • Future versions will allow parents the option to be Fired as a part of set up in Game Rules (yes or no).
  • Can Aunts, Uncles, Grandparents, Nannies etc. play?
    • Yes, you can have unlimited players using the web app version.  Each need an invite from you and will have their own username and passphrase to play.
  • Can I Recognize and Encourage my Kids versus just giving the Warning X’s?
    • Yes, of course!  Use the message function in the app to send Recognition messages for Jobs well done or to give shout outs to your players.
  • How do I change the Pay Date?
    • You can customize your pay date on the Game Rules screen and save.  
    • Rules won’t update until next pay period begins.
  • Can a Job be shared with a sibling?
    • Not at this time, something we are looking to do with future versions as this is a feature within the paper version.
  • Is an X and Warning the same thing?
    • Yes, the players are given a Warning which is represented by an X.  Parents can remove an X if the player corrects their X.
  • How do I create specific Jobs per Kid?
    • Best to put their name in front of the Job (i.e. Nicole – do a load of laundry, Sam- do a load of laundry etc.).
    • Future versions will allow you to customize per Kid.
  • Can multiple Kids choose the same Job?
    • No, once a Job has been taken no one else can apply.  You can post another Job just like it if you want multiple players to complete the same Job (i.e. Nicole – do a load of laundry, Sam – do a load of laundry etc.)
  • How does my Kid become the Employee of the Month?
    • The Employee of the Month is not a part of the app yet.  Currently you need to submit your Kid through our website  go.hireandfireyourkids.com/eotm and tell us why they deserve to be the Employee of the Month.  One winner is drawn each month to receive a HFK water bottle, custom note from Jody Swain the Founder of HFK and a treat of their choice!

TECHNICAL

  • Why do I get “Register Error”?
    • Before attempting to log in you must first Register your Family Account
    • If you’ve done this, and still having trouble, try uninstalling and reinstalling, to create a new Family Account from scratch.
  • Why is my app is not working?
    • Technology can by finicky, try uninstalling and re-installing the app and clearing your cache.
    • If the above doesn’t work, start again creating a family account but use a new username.
    • Contact us to troubleshoot if you still have issues info@HireandFireyourKids.com
  • Why do I get “Register Error”?

  • Why is my Kid’s username and passphrase not working?
    • Before attempting to log in you must first Register your Family Account
    • The Kid’s invite link may have expired if you did not take action immediately after clicking it (this is for security reasons).  Please go back into the app and Send Invite again from the Team screen.
    • NOTE: Kid’s first screen after invite link asks for a Passphrase Passphrase, not a username passphrase. 
  • Why did my Kid not receive the invite email/text?
    • Please check his/her JUNK mail
    • The latest iOS13 release has reported to be affecting several apps. In the app go back to Team, select player, and try inputting a different email or cell number for the Kid’s invite.
  • Why is my Kid not getting the Team invite on his phone or email?
    • Double check their JUNK mail
    • Try inviting that player again from the Team screen and select “Resend Invitation” if that still doesn’t work start again and invite a new player but create a new username for them.  They can use same passphrase.
